From Lack to Abundance
(Prosperity is Always God’s Will – Part 2)
If God’s will is prosperity, then why are my needs not met? How do I get from lack to abundance?
While the Lord does not desire for anyone to live in lack or insufficiency, each person has a part to play in receiving what they need. God has already provided everything we will ever need. II Peter 1.3 reveals that God’s divine power has already given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the acknowledgement of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
Both Psalm 34.10 and II Peter 1.3 promise the supply of all we need – not only spiritually, but also mentally and materially. Both verses also present a requisite to receiving this divine supply.
Psalm 34.10 says those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. We must seek the Lord in order to live life free from lack. Seeking the Lord is not an event but a life-style. It refers not merely to external practice, but to the continual focus of the heart. The first part of Psalm 34.10 states “the young lions lack and suffer hunger.” When a lion is hungry, it goes looking for prey to kill to satisfy its need. Many times, the lion’s hunt is unsuccessful, and so it goes without.
We will meet a similar fate whenever we seek after the things we need instead of seeking the Lord. We were not created to supply our own need. Nor were we created to depend upon others to supply our need. God is the Creator of all, and it is upon Him alone that we should look to as our Source of total supply.
II Peter 1.3 reveals that it is through acknowledgement of the Lordship of Jesus that brings us into the possession of “all things that pertain to life and godliness” that has been given to us by His divine power.
Acknowledging His Lordship again conveys the valuable truth of looking to the Lord as our Source of total supply. Proverbs 3.6 urges – “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” When we acknowledge Him, He will direct our paths to abundance instead of lack. Through acknowledging Him, He will lead us into possession of all things that pertain to life and godliness.
