TRULY ACTING AS SONS OF  GOD

“If you lend money to those who can repay you, what good is that?  Even the most wicked will        lend to their own kind for full return.  Love your enemies.  Do good to them.  And don’t be concerned about the fact that they won’t repay.  Then your reward in heaven will be great, and you’ll be truly acting as sons of God.

Giving only to get back what you gave…

Have you ever done that before?  We have all been tempted with it.

A better term for it is selfishness.  God’s word says to “Love your neighbour (anyone other than yourself) as yourself.”  (Matthew 19.19)

When Jesus multiplied the loaves and the fishes and fed the five thousand, He didn’t get up afterwards and say – “Now that’ll be $5.00 a serving plus tips.”  NO!  He gave that gift freely, no strings attached.  Yet did He go broke because of it?  NO!  God always saw to it that He was clothed and fed, and the Bible says that God even paid His taxes!  “Yeah,”  you say, “but Jesus was God’s son.”  YEAH!  And if you have let Jesus in your heart, guess who you are – a son of
God!

“He who gives to the poor, lends to the Lord.”    Proverbs 19.17

Sometimes we can think that this Scripture means that those who give to the poor will be rewarded only in heaven – but it means much more than that.

Once I heard a man of God teach on this verse of Scripture.  In teaching it, he told a story of when he had paid for an elderly woman’s coffee.  He didn’t really think much of it.  He just wanted to be a blessing to her, and she was having a difficult time scraping up the change to pay for it.

On the way back to where he was going, the Lord spoke to him in a very business-like manner and said – “I will not be indebted to you.”   The minister replied – “No problem, Lord. It was nothing.  Just don’t even think about it.”  But the Lord again said – “I will not be indebted to you.  I repay all My debts.”

So the minister thanked the Lord and went on with his work.  A few days later, he received $1000.00 from an unexpected source – all for lending to the Lord by being a blessing to that woman.  Is our God not a just God?!  A generous God!

So the next time you think about lending something, give it as unto the Lord, as a blessing – and see what God will do!

And then, you will be truly acting as

                                                                A  SON  OF  GOD!
